Will Eisner

William Erwin "Will" Eisner (March 6, 1917 – January 3, 2005) was a pioneering figure in the American comic book industry, celebrated for his innovative contributions as a writer, artist, and entrepreneur. Renowned for founding his own cartooning studio, Eisner gained significant recognition for his groundbreaking series, The Spirit, which showcased his unique storytelling style and artistic prowess.

Eisner was instrumental in elevating comics to a respected literary form, particularly through his seminal work, A Contract with God and Other Tenement Stories, which is often regarded as one of the first graphic novels. His commitment to the medium extended to education, as highlighted in his influential book, Comics and Sequential Art, which has served as a vital resource for aspiring comic creators and artists.

In recognition of his impactful legacy, the comic book community established the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards, affectionately known as "the Eisners," to honor outstanding contributions in the field each year.
