JD Vance
James David Vance, born James Donald Bowman on August 2, 1984, is an American political figure, author, attorney, and Marine Corps veteran. He currently serves as the 50th vice president of the United States and represented Ohio in the U.S. Senate from 2023 to 2025 as a member of the Republican Party. In addition to his Senate duties, Vance has held the position of finance chair for the Republican National Committee.
Vance’s journey began after high school when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving as a military journalist from 2003 to 2007. He later earned degrees from Ohio State University and Yale Law School. Following a brief stint in corporate law, he transitioned to the tech sector as a venture capitalist. His 2016 memoir, "Hillbilly Elegy," gained significant attention and was adapted into a film in 2020, highlighting his insights into the struggles of the working class.
In the 2022 Senate race, Vance emerged victorious against Democratic candidate Tim Ryan. Initially critical of Donald Trump during the 2016 election, Vance became a staunch supporter during Trump's presidency. In July 2024, Trump selected him as his running mate leading up to the Republican National Convention.
Vance's political ideology aligns with national conservatism and right-wing populism. He is known for his opposition to abortion, same-sex marriage, and gun control, and he has expressed skepticism regarding American military aid to Ukraine. Additionally, Vance has been vocal about issues surrounding childlessness, citing the influence of Catholic theology on his views.
