Timothy Michael Kaine, born on February 26, 1958, is an accomplished American attorney and politician who has represented Virginia as the junior United States senator since 2013. A prominent member of the Democratic Party, he previously held significant positions, including the 38th lieutenant governor of Virginia from 2002 to 2006 and the 70th governor from 2006 to 2010. Kaine gained national recognition when he served as Hillary Clinton's running mate during the 2016 presidential election as the Democratic nominee for vice president.

Kaine's roots trace back to Saint Paul, Minnesota, although he grew up in Overland Park, Kansas. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri, before earning a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School. Following his education, he entered private law practice and took on a teaching role at the University of Richmond School of Law. His political career began in 1994 with his election to the Richmond City Council, and he became the city's mayor in 1998. In 2001, he was elected lieutenant governor of Virginia, and four years later, he ascended to the governorship, serving from 2006 to 2010. Additionally, Kaine chaired the Democratic National Committee from 2009 to 2011, further solidifying his influence within the party.
