Liberty Kid, directed by Ilya Chaiken, follows the struggles of Derrick and Tico, two friends who lose their concession stand jobs at the Statue of Liberty post-9/11. Desperate for income, they resort to drug dealing and insurance fraud. Derrick, a father of two, dreams of attending college but faces financial hurdles. When military recruiters approach him with promises of tuition support and free housing, he contemplates enlisting. However, his mother expresses her fears about the dangers of war, while the recruiter reassures him that her concerns are simply a mother's instinct.
