For four hundred years, the Roman Empire dominated Britannia, trading security and stability for allegiance. To defend against the enigmatic blue-painted Picts, they erected Hadrian's Wall along the northern frontier. However, in the fifth century, the Romans abandoned their stronghold, thrusting the British into chaos.
